“I’m starvin’, darlin’, let me put my lips to somethin’
Let me wrap my teeth around the world”
– Hozier, “Eat Your Young”

Sometimes hunger is a physical feeling; your body aches and grumbles until you feed it. Other times it is less tangible. Have you ever wanted something so bad that your head starts to throb? What do your characters want most in the world? You might be a politician itching for power, a lost child longing safety, or an alien yearning for love on an unfamiliar planet. What are you willing to do to satisfy that gnawing feeling? What do you do when your hunger can’t be relieved?

Hunger has many forms. Tell us about physical hunger or something less tangible. We want your poetry, fiction (any genre), nonfiction, or essays (1,500 words max). Of course, rough drafts are welcome! Fifteen finalists will be published in a printed book alongside original artwork and celebrated by friends, family, and fellow authors at a book release party and signing.

Submission Deadline: February 2, 2026
