Elementary School

Write a haiku about spring. A haiku is three lines of poetry, split up by syllables. The first line is 5 syllables, the second line is 7 syllables, and the third line is 5 syllables again. What are some things you like about spring? The sunnier days? Flowers blooming? The end of a school year? In just 17 syllables, tell us what you love about spring.

Middle School

Write a poem or a story about spring. Picture a rain cloud being pushed away by the sun. The flowers are blooming, no need for umbrellas, the sun is calling out that spring is here. What is the transition from winter to spring like? Is it sudden or gradual? Is it welcome or unwanted? What does spring offer you?

High School

Write a letter to “Spring.” Imagine Spring is a person. What would you tell Spring? Would you vent about the past winter days, detail your excitement from the New Year that came and went, ask Spring when the sun will feel hot again? Who is Spring to you? What would you confess to Spring?
